401 Photos, NPH on Letterman, Signed Jeans

You can see 14 promotional shots for 401 here. SPOILER ALERT: Apparently they go to MacLaren’s. [No, really, it doesn't give anything away beyond that, unless you consider "Jason Segel still needs a haircut" a spoiler.]

  • A HIMYM drinking game has been posted over at Fanpop.
  • You can see NPH’s appearance on Letterman here (as well as a ton of other great Neil videos), thanks to NPH-fan.com.
  • ABC just gave the sitcom Single with Parents a midseason pickup – the show’s from Kristin Newman, who was a producer on HIMYM during S2 and wrote the episodes “Single Stamina” and “Ted Mosby, Architect.”
  • The cast of HIMYM signed a pair of jeans for the Clothes Off Our Back auction, which will run until September 8 and benefit several charities.

The Bro Code – Release Details

Simon & Schuster has released details about the upcoming book version of The Bro Code. As was mentioned before, it’s by Matt Kuhn, who is the guy behind Barney’s blog as well as the writer of the episodes Slapsgiving and Columns.

The book’s release is set for October 14. 208 pages, paperback, list price $13.00 (with Amazon pre-orders costing $10.40).

The best part? There’s also going to be an audio version, read by Neil Patrick Harris.

THE BRO CODE, from an episode of the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother, a guide that provides men with all the rules they need to know in order to become a “bro,” supposedly dating back to the American Revolution and handed down to the character Barney Stinson (played by Neil Patrick Harris), written in the voice of Barney by show writer Matt Kuhn, to Meghan Stevenson at Touchstone Fireside, for publication in October 2008, by Debbie Olshan at Twentieth Century Fox, with Barry Kotler at the Gersh Agency representing Kuhn (world).

  • Neil’s episode of Sesame Street will air on August 12, according to UPI. In addition to the already-posted clip from the episode, he can be seen headbanging with Elmo in this celebrity promo for the new season.
  • There’s a decent chance we’ll see a Harold and Kumar 3.
  • Gloria Calderon Kellett has created a web series called Get Ripped.
  • Hallmark has signed a deal that will allow it to make greeting cards featuring certain Fox properties, including HIMYM. I’m not positive that the new line of cards will include HIMYM designs, but they have the option now, so we could be seeing some in the next month or so.

Joss Whedon Q&A – Sequel? Soundtrack? DVD?

The Washington Post did a live chat with Joss Whedon earlier today – you can read the whole thing here, but here’s the big stuff:

Stuttgart, Germany: I want, no, I need a sequel! Any chances?
Joss Whedon: It’s over! Let it go!

Or, okay…. We’d love to, but it wouldn’t be simple and it wouldn’t be soon. And frankly, Neil needs to work on his singing. The voice has promise, but…

Calgary, Alberta: Any ETA on the CD/DVD?
Joss Whedon: Soon as we can, but definitely in time to make the perfect stocking stuffer! (Why does that sound dirty this time…?)

Over at philly.com, Neil says a little bit about working with Joss.

S3 DVDs – Cover Art and Updated Extras

Changes to the extras include titles for the Marshall/Lily honeymoon videos and the How It Really Happened extras [no surprises, all of those videos were already available online] and some changes to the commentary listings – Carter Bays isn’t listed for as many as before, and there’s now a commentary listed for The Chain of Screaming: writer Chris Harris, Jason Segel, “and his driver Danny Bress.”

The DVDs will be out on October 7 – at $25.99, Amazon’s preorder is the cheapest I’ve seen, although they do list the wrong date.

HIMYM Goes Liter-[wait for it]-ary, Craig Thomas talks Robin/Barney

Awesome news – the Chicago Tribune talked to Craig Thomas, and he says he and Carter Bays [along with Matt Kuhn, who wrote Slapsgiving and Columns, as well as Barney's blog] are currently writing the Bro Code as a book that will be published this November.

There are some low-level spoilers as well – he talks about Stella as a potential mother, why they decided to go the Robin/Barney route, and how much attention they’ll be giving that story when the show comes back.

Apart from the book news, it is, as usual, Alan Sepinwall who asks all the right questions – his interview with Craig Thomas is a must-read if I’ve ever seen one. There’s a little bit of what everyone will be up to when the show comes back [for example, how Marshall and Lily will play into the Ted/Stella and Barney/Robin stories that the finale set up], the future of the goat [and whether Robin will really be living with Ted when we hear the story], and how to make Barney/Robin work without defanging Barney or making Robin look ridiculous.

Season 3 DVDs – New [Earlier] Release Date and Extras List

They’ve finally put out a press release about the S3 DVDs, and they’ll be out on October 7, a week earlier than Amazon was reporting.

The special features:

  • Series Retrospective
  • Cast Favorites Featurette
  • Unrated Gag Reel
  • Behind The Scenes Of “We’re Not From Here”
  • Additional Scenes – How It Really Happened
  • Lily And Marshall’s Honeymoon Videos
  • You Just Got Slapped Music Video
  • Robin Sparkles “Sandcastles in the Sand” Music Video
  • Ted Mosby Is A Jerk Alternate Audio Track – “The Bracket”
  • Commentary By Show Creators Carter Bays And Craig Thomas, Director Pam Fryman And Editor Sue Federman – “The Platinum Rule”
  • Commentary By Actors Josh Radnor And Sarah Chalke And Show Creators Carter Bays And Craig Thomas – “Ten Sessions”
  • Commentary By Actor Neil Patrick Harris, Show Creators Carter Bays And Craig Thomas And Writer Joe Kelly – “The Bracket”
  • Commentary By Actor Cobie Smulders, Show Creators Carter Bays And Craig Thomas, Director Pam Fryman And Writer Kourtney Kang – “Sandcastles In The Sand”
  • Commentary By Actor Alyson Hannigan And Consulting Producer Jonathan Groff – “Everything Must Go”
  • Commentary By Show Creators Carter Bays And Craig Thomas And Director Pam Fryman – “Miracles”

It’s a pity the cast couldn’t get together for commentaries, but it still looks great!

There’s still no final box art, but that will hopefully make an appearance sometime soon.

News – Good, Bad, and 50% off

Bad news first! The ten Emmy finalists in the Outstanding Comedy Series category have been announced, and HIMYM did not make the cut. [We lost out to Two and a Half Men and Family Guy, which...no.] This is a new move for the Academy, but don’t expect to know about any of the other categories until the nominations themselves are announced.

Now, some bits of good news – we have official confirmation of the September 22 premiere, Amazon is currently offering S1 and S2 for half off [along with a ton of other shows], and, while everyone knows that there are very few things with less relevance than the Teen Choice Awards, Forgetting Sarah Marshall is up for Choice Movie Bromantic Comedy, Jason Segel is up for Choice Movie Breakout Male, HIMYM is up for Choice TV Show Comedy, and NPH is up for Choice TV Actor Comedy.

Voting for the Teen Choice Awards is at their website.

Season 3 DVDs: Release Date and Pre-Order

According to Amazon, Season Three will be released on DVD on October 14! They’ve got it available for pre-order for $27.99. Keep in mind that although the final product could resemble it, this isn’t the official DVD cover.
