Taran Killam played Barney’s coworker Blauman in two episodes (Life Among the Gorillas and The Chain of Screaming). He and Cobie both appeared briefly in an episode of the online series Dr. Miracles:
And in the online short Hobo Heroes - Killam wrote, directed, edited, and starred, and Cobie produced and made a brief appearance:
Thanks so much to everyone who emailed about the news!
Jason Segel’s upcoming movie, I Love You, Man has had its release moved from January 16 to March 20.
The 2008 World Magic Awards, which Neil Patrick Harris hosted a while back, will air this Wednesday on MyNetworkTV. The LA Stage Blog posted a photo of Neil at the recent Ovation Awards.
Bob Saget’s new sitcom may never see the light of day now that Media Rights Capital has lost control over the CW’s Sunday night lineup.
Fun with numbers: Based on data from tvbythenumbers.com, last week HIMYM was the third most-watched half-hour comedy on network TV (behind Two and a Half Men and Worst Week). It had the second-best 18-49 numbers (behind Men, and tied with The Office) and the second-best 18-34 numbers (behind The Office, tied with 30 Rock).
[For those of you who didn't read the site last spring, legen-waitforit.com has a strict No Namechecking the Stunt Castees policy. See: That Woman Who Played Abby.]
Footage of NPH getting dunked on Ellen last week has finally surfaced!
Variety’s Q&A with Carter Bays and Craig Thomas has been posted. Between that and Cleveland Magazine’s interview with Carter Bays, there’s a lot of talk about how much of the show is based in real life. [There's an extension of the Cleveland interview here - to see the video, you'll have to be logged out of Facebook.]
USA Today ran a story about the mystery surrounding the mother, with some input from Josh Radnor and Craig Thomas.
Rob Owen of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette answered a question about Marshall’s wardrobe.
NPH-Fan.com has photos of Neil at the premiere of Criss Angel’s Believe last weekend.
The soundtrack to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is currently only five dollars on Amazon, but I hear that’s just for today.
Audible is offering eight minutes of The Bro Code as its free listen for the week.
Neil Patrick Harris will provide the voice of the villain in the upcoming game Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard. (Matt Hazard will be voiced by Will Arnett.) You can see him talk about his character here (it’s the fourteenth segment on the timeline), and he was in this promo for Game Trailers TV.
TV Guide got a quote from Carter Bays about Alyson’s pregnancy.
You guys, I will be so glad when Monday’s episode airs and I can stop treating every scrap of information about the episode like it’s a major spoiler. But since it hasn’t aired yet: Two batches of links! The first batch contains no Shelter Island spoilers.
Jamie-Lynn Sigler has signed on to play Jillian in 4.08. Spoiler level: Nothing new for those of you who read yesterday’s post, nothing major for those of you who didn’t. He just does the whole “Sigler will play Jillian, who is…” thing, and it’s a) not entirely correct, so far as I know, and b) not very spoilery at all.
Jason Segel will be on Live with Regis and Kelly on October 27. [Thanks to Shermie for the tip.]
Sarah Chalke will be on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on October 22.
A self-employed prestidigitator [look it up] named Neil Harris contributed to No on 8. [Proposition 8 would undo California's legalization of gay marriage.]
Auction! A TiVo HD, signed by Neil Patrick Harris [and some other celebrities from Stand Up To Cancer, which is what the auction is for]. It comes with a year’s subscription to TiVo.
And everything in the second batch contains some degree of spoiler for the episode:
Watch With Kristin analyzes the various relationships on the show. Quotes from the cast and some spoilers for 4.05, 4.07 and 4.08, but none of them are new.
This aired a few weeks ago, but TV Guide just put it on YouTube. No spoilers (this was filmed two months ago), and they basically threw every single behind-the-scenes clip they could find into this, going back to Season Two, but there are some great interviews with the cast, as well as Carter Bays, Craig Thomas, and Pam Fryman. Most notably, in the first video, Alyson Hannigan endorses The Hair.
And Josh Radnor kicks ass at HIMYM trivia, only to be stumped by the lyrics to Let’s Go to the Mall:
According to Just Jared, Josh Radnor is in the October issue of the LA Times magazine - it’s unclear whether it’s just that one quote or if there’s a full interview. Anyone got a copy handy?
Television Without Pity interviewed Craig Thomas. It’s a great interview, lots of information - if you’re concerned about spoilers, I would say it’s safe. He does talk about upcoming episodes, but it’s all very general, and the most specific he gets is saying who Jason Jones will play.
CBS is testing out an interactive video site - basically, while watching full episodes online, you can comment on them with others who are watching, compete in trivia contests, and throw tomatos at (or blow kisses to) the characters onscreen. Currently the only episode available (for all of CBS, not just How I Met Your Mother) is The Best Burger in New York.
BuddyTV has put up the next video from their set visit a few weeks ago - this one’s a Jason Segel interview.
[Spoilers: Jason doesn't say anything spoilery, but while he's answering the Alyson Hannigan and Sarah Chalke questions, they show some video of Sarah, Jason, and Alyson shooting scenes for an upcoming episode.]
There are spoilers coming in from multiple sources about some big things that will happen this October. They’re big spoilers, so proceed at your own risk.
Awesome news - the Chicago Tribune talked to Craig Thomas, and he says he and Carter Bays [along with Matt Kuhn, who wrote Slapsgiving and Columns, as well as Barney's blog] are currently writing the Bro Code as a book that will be published this November.
There are some low-level spoilers as well - he talks about Stella as a potential mother, why they decided to go the Robin/Barney route, and how much attention they’ll be giving that story when the show comes back.
Apart from the book news, it is, as usual, Alan Sepinwall who asks all the right questions - his interview with Craig Thomas is a must-read if I’ve ever seen one. There’s a little bit of what everyone will be up to when the show comes back [for example, how Marshall and Lily will play into the Ted/Stella and Barney/Robin stories that the finale set up], the future of the goat [and whether Robin will really be living with Ted when we hear the story], and how to make Barney/Robin work without defanging Barney or making Robin look ridiculous.
