Lily’s been in Seattle for some reason, and she and Marshall are planning to let their longstanding tradition (in which he picks her up from the airport, and she brings him back a six-pack of beer) die, presumably because the Fiero died. As her arrival approaches, though, they both start to have doubts - Marshall worries she’ll bring beer and he won’t be there, Lily worries he’ll be there and she won’t have beer. This looks like it’ll be the episode’s A-plot - it will also include Robin and the return of Ranjit.
Meanwhile, Carl is also back, and for some reason he’s let Ted and Barney take control of the bar for the night.

Seriously, it’s the best story idea on this show and we’ve hardly had anything of it this year. I thought producers had promised to focus on that at the begining of the season. That didn’t happen at all.
Brian, did you WATCH season 4? barney came to terms with it in the only way he could. he failed.
i think they will build the barney/robin story very slowly, but it will happen.
it would be weird if barney changed all of the sudden. but i also think that he needs this change…. they cant keep making the same jokes over and over again. nph is awesome and manages to stay fresh, but i think its time to see more of the other side of barney
Yes I’ve watched season 4. The creators of the show had said it was the heavy focus of the first 6 eps, which it really wasn’t.
It would also be nice to see more of Robin’s side of all of this. Clearly she was going up to his room in the wedding episode for a reason…
I totally agree, I would like to hear her side of the story to. I have a feeling she might have some feelings of her own. She has a strange but good relatioship with Barney, since they slept together they have seemed to be getting closer. Maybe Robin is warming up to Barney, surely she can tell Barney likes her by the looks he gives her and the way he acts, it’s kind of obvious!
I’m looking forward to seeing Ted and Barney in charge of the bar. I’m sure Barney will be giving free drinks to all the hot women. LOL
Odd that they’re not playing the Christmas episode on the Monday leading up to Christmas. I presume we’ll get a repeat that week?
Hopefully not, I’m getting sick of these repeats. Were supposed to be watching season 4 not repeats from season 3, surely our memory is that bad that we cant remember any episodes from last season.
Well, between September and May they’ve got to air ten to twelve reruns, so enjoy the coming months because the bulk of those will come between now and March sweeps.
As for Monday the 22nd - a rerun is possible, but it’s more likely that HIMYM won’t air at all and we’ll see some Christmas programming instead.

Why do the ”have” to air re-runs anyway??
september to may is like 9 months which is 36 weeks. And isnt there like 26 episodes this season or something?? so I guess they would have to do re-runs to fill up the spare weeks…
Right, traditionally weekly shows (at least scripted ones–reality shows tend to have different rules) allow for some time off for the cast and crew, plus sometimes there will be an episode or two that takes more than one week to shoot for whatever reason, so they fill up the extra weeks with re-runs–and as Sarah said, these re-runs will never air during sweeps (with the exception of the much less important sweeps period in July, because that’s off-season for most scripted television). March is usually notorious for bad television for this reason, but the usual February sweeps period has been moved to March for 2009–perhaps because of March’s shoddy TV reputation.

Back to the Robin and Barney thing though. I have been thinking, now with Cobie pregnant the writers ae going to have to figure a way of working this around the show. They are going to have to work it into the show, maybe with barney or somehting but they would have to start doing it fast because most people start showing that there pregnant after about 3months. Or they could work around it and not include it into the show. But it may mean quite of a lot of mised filming. But how-ever they do it, I am sure it is going to be legendary…
The producers of the show have already sort of hinted at the fact that they won’t write it in.

Becca, they issued a statement right after Cobie and Alyson announced their pregnancies. In it Craig Thomas said he’d have to find some baggy clothes for Lily and Robin to inexplicably be wearing the rest of the season.
I really don’t understand what people see in Barney/Robin. They don’t have any chemistry, the show grinds to a screeching halt whenever that relationship is focused on, and Barney is too much of a despicable person to deserve a girl like Robin.

I have been thinking, you know that in season 3 and Ted and Barney broke friends because Barney slept with Robin, and Barney was only sad about it because he broke the bro-codem he did qoute to Marshall that it was awesome. Barney would never under any circumstances break the bro-code, if it was any other girl like one of his bimbo’s he wouldn’t break the code. He must of really felt something for Robin. Also Ted HAS broke the code before, you know the law that says no sex with your bro’s ex…well i cant remember which episode but wasnt there an episode were ted went out with one of barney’s ex bimbo’s?? the episode were barney was a little midget man in a hat and ted kept seeing him all over the girls body, were barney was saying, what you will kiss i have kissed and stuff like that…barney isn’t the only one to break a rule!!
That episode was “Little Boys,” Becca, but considering that Ted and Barney were making a *bet* to see which one of them would get the girl in the end, where Barney pretty much said to Ted, “Go sleep with her, if you can,” I really don’t see how that’s at all comparable to Barney sleeping with Robin. Girlfriend for a year > “Oh, I slept with her already, a year ago. I just forgot.”
